Diamond quality
Choose with understanding
Know the details of your diamond.
A beautiful piece starts with clear information. Understand your diamond’s specifications, what an independent grading report tells you and which documents come with your selection.
Checked three times before dispatch.
Our production partner carries out three quality checks before your piece is dispatched. The jewellery is inspected for workmanship, stone setting and finish.
These manufacturing checks are separate from an independent diamond grading report. Report availability depends on your selected stone and design.
Independent grading reports.
Independent grading reports, including reports from the International Gemological Institute (IGI), are available for selected lab-grown centre stones. A report records the characteristics of the particular diamond examined by the laboratory.
Report inclusion depends on the stone and design. We do not promise a separate report for every diamond or every small accent stone. Before ordering, ask IRIS to confirm the report included with your chosen piece, the issuing laboratory and which stone it covers.
Check a report for yourself.
Use the report number on the issuing laboratory’s official website. For an IGI report, visit IGI report verification. Compare the report number and recorded specifications with the document supplied for your stone.
A report describes the diamond examined; it is separate from your jewellery’s metal hallmark, warranty and any insurance valuation.
Three clarity choices, simply explained.
Clarity describes internal features and surface blemishes assessed under magnification. Our customisation offers SI1, VS1 and VVS1 where available for the design.
SI1
Slightly included. Inclusions are noticeable to a skilled grader at 10× magnification.
VS1
Very slightly included. Minor inclusions are difficult for a skilled grader to see at 10× magnification.
VVS1
Very, very slightly included. Minute inclusions are extremely difficult for a skilled grader to see at 10× magnification.
Clarity alone does not determine how a diamond looks. Cut, proportions, size and the position of inclusions also matter. A grade is not a promise that every stone will look identical or that an inclusion will be invisible without magnification.
Understanding diamond weight.
Carat measures weight, not diameter. Check whether your selected weight describes one centre stone, the total for a pair of earrings or the total across the whole piece. The product page states the basis so you can compare like for like.
Precious metal and hallmarking.
A diamond report describes a gemstone. A precious-metal hallmark identifies the metal content of an item. One does not replace the other.
Our metal options include 9ct, 14ct and 18ct solid gold, and PT950 platinum where offered for the design. The selected material is shown in your order summary. Read the hallmarking information and official Dealer’s Notice for an explanation of the marks.
